Canada's 1812 war with the United States: what you need to know in this World Cup of football/soccer year
Canada's only independent war was fought in 1812 to protect indigenous territory from US settler intrusion. The city of Toronto references the war in its notice about the World Cup but fails to include challenges to co-host relations posed by the current USA administration. Under today's leadership all is not beautiful with the game, however much the eponymous adjective may be used. Insults to neighbouring countries, as recently of Canada by America's current leader, do not fit the "friendliness" governing body FIFA claims as a core value.
