Canada's 1812 war with the United States: what you need to know
Canada's only independent war was fought in 1812 to protect indigenous territory from US settler intrusion. The city of Toronto references the war in a recent notice about the World Cup but fails to include challenges to co-host relations posed by the current USA administration. Under today's leadership all is not beautiful with "the beautiful game" of soccer to be featured in Canada, the USA and Mexico - co-hosts of the 2026 World Cup - no matter how often the eponymous adjective is used by commentators.
Insults to neighbouring countries, as recently of Canada by the U.S.A's current leader, do not fit the "friendliness" FIFA, governing body of the World Cup, claims as a core value.
