However it may be presented, as a public health measure, an environmental defence measure, or simply as an efficiency booster the increasing number of Toronto businesses outlawing cash payments have one thing in common: the poor, especially those who live on our streets. are excluded by the policy as they largely depend on coin donations for their income. When the little they can buy to meet their daily needs is removed, it substantially adds to the daily stresses that kill many of the poor prematurely. TorontotheBetter calls on all enterprises in, and for, Toronto to accept cash purchases and so support a Toronto open to all, whatever their income.
